Luxemburg - Euro coins

Luxembourg  eurocoins

Yvette Gastauer-Claire designed the coins by agreement with the Royal Household and the Luxembourg Government.

All the Luxembourg coins bear the profile of His Royal Highness Grand Duke Henri. They also bear the year of issue and the word “Luxembourg” written in Luxembourgish (“Lëtzebuerg”).
Edge lettering of the €2 coin: 2**, repeated six times, alternately upright and inverted.

The official issuer of Luxembourg coins and notes is the Institut Monetaire Luxembourgeois to whom the right of issue was transferred by the State in 1983. The Luxembourg Franc, at par 1 to 1 with the Belgian Franc in the framework of the monetary association with Belgium, is part of the ECU-basket and the Grand-Duchy is a full member of the European Monetary System. Luxembourg is one of the founding members of the International Monetary Fund.
Since 1983 the Institut Monetaire Luxembourgeois is the monetary authority of the Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg. It is at the same time the supervisory authority of the financial sector.
Luxembourg's last collector coin set denominated in francs was issued in 1995. Luxembourg's currency is now denominated in Euros, with a fixed exchange rate of 1 Euro = 40.3399 LUF.

2004 - Luxembourg - Grand Duke Henri - Unc
The unique attribute about the design of this coin is that the monogram 'H' and the Grand Ducal Crown are built up out of small 'H' letters. This unique technique, which is based on banknote production technologies, is completely new in the coin industry and has been used with this specific coin for the very first time in coin history. The reverse of the coin is common to all 2-Euro coins.

The remains of a Gallo Roman theatre built in 70 AD were discovered in Dalheim. With a diameter of 62.5 metres, the theatre could contain 3,500 spectators.

Charlotte, Grand Duchess of Luxembourg was the second daughter of William IV, Grand Duke of Luxembourg and his wife Marie Anne of Portugal. She was Grand Duchess of Luxembourg from 1919 to 1964. Unlike her sister, she chose not to meddle with its politics. In a referendum about the new constitution on 28 September 1919, 77.8% of the Luxembourgish people voted for the continuation of a Grand Ducal monarchy with Charlotte as head of state.
