October 2008 | San Marino Divisional coins set 2008
The divisional coins set 2008 will have a 5 euro silver coin dealing with the theme of the “International Year of Planet Earth”.
The reverse, designed by Valerio De Seta, represents a ridge of sectioned land upon which stands a tree, and above the horizon, Mount Titan. The all is embraced by a circular arch which stems from four ripples below, to represent the oceans, and terminates above with a hurricane vortex, which represents climatic change, visually recalling the sphericity of the Globe.
In the centre, Karst formations, to represent underground rivers, resources found below the earth’s surface. The tree symbolizes life, which through its roots, draws directly from these resources.
The obverse side, designed by Annalisa Masini, depicts a semicircle to represent the Globe, inside of which are found the three towers, whose feathers have been replaced by three of the four natural elements: Fire, Earth and Air.
Water, on the other hand, is represented by the ripples found at the base of the three towers.
